The Karrakin Cleans

This is an original linocut printed onto rusted handmade paper. Ink has been used to highlight the tail feathers and other details. It is the pair to ‘The Wambengers Flees’ and has been glazed to deepen the colours. The Karrakin (Red-tailed Cockatoo) is an endangered Australian species, constantly under threat by land clearing and bushfires. In this image he rests on a scorched trunk for a moment to clean the fallen ash from his feathers. The Haiku poems alludes to the the beginning of recovery – ‘green buds’ – a welcome occurrence.
