Endangered Fauna foldout Books

I have used my linocut printing to create awareness of some of our Western Australian endangered fauna. I presented these small and very personal fold out handmade books as part of a larger art exhibition in Albany West Australia in 2023. They fold out to reveal the ‘bigger picture’ of the species – Baudin’s Black Cockatoo, the WA Numbat and the Western Ring tail Possum.

Each limited edition handmade book has taken many hours and is created with printing an original linocut print on 110 year old pages of an encyclopedia, glazing then cutting it to create a foldout book, and adding simple but meaningful words. It is then attached to individual covers with a subtle coloured ink overlay.

The message on the back of the covers explains the deeper meaning of the materials and approach I have taken –

Seeing the whole picture

The 110 year old encyclopedia represents our Knowledge

The fragmented images – our Environment

And your ability to reconstruct this book – our Future.
