Cockatoo Recovery

The endangered Red Tailed Cockatoo faces many obstacles to its continued existence… one is the threat of bushfire. In this linocut I have shown the cockatoo cleaning its feathers of the ash and dust caused by a recent bushfire amidst the scorched trees. The background paper is a handmade with the bushland images created through the ‘rusting’ process and revealing ghostly images of trees and limbs. I have enhanced these with coloured pencil and added the cockatoos in the background with solvent transfers. The Haiku poem speaks of the recovery process of both the Cockatoo and the surrounding vegetation.
